However, you have tor choices when coming to compatible os for mac 2010. If you are expecting a desktop-based working environment with awesome performance, fo is the best answer for sure. That having said, making the best selection between Fusion vs SSD for storage is an important thing. Given that both have pros and cons, your selection should be precise. SSD vs Fusion Drive - Apple Community
I will go for the top end spec but would like to know more about the benefits of a SSD over a 2tb gb flash fusion drive. In almost all forums the advice is to go for SSD and add an external drive. I really don't understand this argument. If I already store all videos and music on an external drive, why do I need a flash larger than gb? Where am i wrong?
Best, Hans. Aug 22, AM. For me it was cost so I bought ffusion 27" with the standards 2TB. If your apps spend most of their time with disk read writes then a SSD may be an advantage. The solid stat part of the rotating HDD learns what data is most frequently accessed and places that in the SSD section.

Ask a question. User profile for user: clayton clayton Once you're used to SSD responsiveness, you can't go back. So basically fuion only gives me like 10 GB for apps and stuff. Just popping in to say that is incorrect. As you rightfully note, that would be idiotic. My understanding is that only the most frequently used files are stored on the SSD, and that excludes most of the 'spare' OS files. So pretty much the whole 24 GB is devoted to highly used files.
Buy the biggest SSD you can reasonably afford and put it in as a main drive. Bigger, cheaper ones will be out in a few years. Plug in a nice big spinny drive for media etc. Make sure you budget for a Time Machine drive that is bigger than your two main drives put together. Runs like a dream now, and good enough for the kids to use when the intern's not using it. Good point, that was an oversimplification.Aug 22, · FWIW. I don't have an iMac. Instead I have a Mac mini which had similar selections for the internal drive. I opted to go with the 2 TB Fusion drive, for two reasons: I still get the benefit of an SSD for quick startup and access to applications, and ; I . Jun 09, · If you are going with SSD, get a 1TB one. I bought an iMac with a 2TB Fusion drive, because Apple wants two much for even a 1TB SSD, and I need at least 2TB of space on the internal drive. What I will do when the warranty is over is to replace the Fusion drive with a 2TB SSD. But for now the Fusion drive is fine with me. Still, I'm thinking all SSD is the way to go. Two, the newer iMacs are glued together, and I don't really feel comfortable putting a mechanical hard drive in a computer that's such a pain in the ass to take apart.
And three, I've realized that the majority of my data is rarely accessed; all my important documents and music can easily fit in GB along with the OS and applications without any iCloud "optimization"and the rest can easily live on a NAS without terribly inconveniencing myself and by NAS, I mean USB hard drive connected to my router, not even a fancy prosumer solution from Synology or anything.
No point in basing my purchase around the needs of, frankly, my least important data.
And the next iMac should push USB 3. Problem is Thunderbolt external storage is a nonstarter unless you're a pro who can justify the high premiums.
Would be great if USB 3. Nope, The prior model had It is unlikely that anyone who gets an iMac for demanding tasks get the 1 TB ssv. For most folks not the Ars readers the 1 TB fusion is fine. It's rpm in the The reason is almost certainly because a rpm drive in the This is why I put a rpm drive in my own iMac, despite conventional wisdom on the internet being that they're complete garbage that no one should use for anything ever. Considering the components inside an iMac, the temperature delta between modern, quality and drives is going to be minor in terms of Apple's overall heat dissipation budget.
Or put another way, if the heat envelope inside an iMac is that precarious, then Apple's got far bigger priority problems than just a few pennies of margin.

Have there been any recent benchmarks of rpm vs rpm performance? It's been awhile since I had to buy a hard drive, and I was surprised to see a really confusing to me current landscape of tons of "NAS-optimized" models, low-power ones, backup ones, so-called hybrid drives and surprisingly few billed for specifically high ish performance.
I assume they've conceded the performance market to SSD products, but still, surprisingly there seem to be more rpm drives than a few years ago which I assumed would be extinct by nowand almost no 10, rpm ones.

We suppose these are enough for performance-oriented tasks. Fusion Drives were introduced as a viable replacement for those expensive Flash Storage options.
Its advantages can be as follows. Before fusoin jump into conclusions, you should understand the working principle of an Apple Fusion Drive. The working process of Fusion Drive is based on your own usage patterns. Out of the whole storage, SSD part will be used for storing frequently accessed files.
For instance, if you have a few documents of folders that you open daily, they will be stored on the SSD part. The transfer is quick and you do not have to bother about it.Nov 16, · Apple Fusion Drive Review & Benchmarks (with MacBook Pro SSD Comparison) Check out Kingston's HyperX USB Drives & Support the Channel! gsgg.handmadematters.store Aug 22, · FWIW. Suppose you are using iMovie for editing, almost every ffor. So, the next time you open it, you can have blazing speeds for sure. So, summing up, Fusion Drives provide a better speed and performance than HDDs, but not on par with dedicated Storage. If you need high-end performance and unparalleled speed, we do recommend going with dedicated Flash Storage. Indeed, you will have to pay more.
